Charlie Newlands

Charlie Newlands first started at working at Summer Water Sports in 2000, which was the start of his professional water skiing career. At the age of 15 he had a lot to learn if he wanted to be the best. It all paid off when he won Show Skier of the Year, at SWS, in 2006. That’s when H2O Entertainment, an Australian based company, started to pay attention to the rumors about ‘this amazing skier from Canada’. In January 2007, H2O Entertainment invited Charlie to come and perform in a two and a half month ski show in Malaysia that included a multi-million dollar firework demonstration every night. That was the turning point in his water skiing career. After skiing in Malaysia, in October 2007, Charlie left for Australia to ski full time professionally. He skied in Western Australia with the Western Australia Water Ski Show Team. He played a big role in teaching the younger skiers to Sky Ski and Ski Jump. In January 2008, Charlie was asked to come ski at Sea World Australia on the Gold Coast. He had only skied there six months when Sea World saw how valuable a skier Charlie was. They decided to Sponsor Charlie to come over and ski for them full time. The Sea World water ski show is the longest running live show in Australian history. Charlie has proven himself to be one of the top Show Skiers in the world. He is currently still skiing at Sea World. He still manages to save up all his time off so he can come back to Muskoka for the summer to ski for SWS. When he’s not skiing, he is constantly on the water filming or on the computer editing extreme water sports movies that showcase himself and some of the top water skiers/wakeboarders in the world. He can’t wait to get home this summer to Lake Rosseau in Canada, where it all began, to ski with Summer Water Sports, the company that his family now runs.
